A new European Hard Discount Retail Chain is worth considering as a gap is being created, with most discounters moving to a more supermarket-like model. But a comeback of the hard discount brick and mortar model as it was 25 years ago with its limited assortment of private label products and a simple store design is unlikely. As scale and margin mix is missing with higher customer expectations. Nevertheless E-commerce could easily jump into this gap. That's why the very low-price promise from hard discount is expected to make a comeback, and this could be as early as 2020.
