Germany: TEDi expands its store network to Belgium and France

Discount Variety Retail Chain TEDi (owned by the German Tengelmann group) is coming to Belgium and France. The chain with 2,750 shops in a dozen countries plans to double its store network in the not-so-distant future.

“The German Action”

TEDi is preparing to enter Belgium and France. For the latter, a store in Evreux is planned; for the former, real estate partner Retail Point exclusively reveals to RetailDetail that it is looking for stores of around 1,000 sqm across Belgium. This year alone, the non-food discounter wants to open five to ten branches in Belgium.

Tedi is a rather formidable competitor for Action: the Germans are also aiming for cheap and attractive items at low prices, from stationery and decoration to toys and DIY products. TEDi also aims to offer a one-stop shop solution for bargain hunters.

Doubling store network

The range comprises some 15,000 references, with an extra focus on aesthetics and design. The permanent offer is complemented by stock clearance items and seasonal products. TEDi also has a house brand: TEDi Black.

The hard discounter, known in full as Top Euro Discount, has more than 2,750 shops in a dozen countries in Central Europe (Austria, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia) and Southern Europe (Croatia, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Spain). In the medium term, the chain plans to almost double its network to 5,000 shops, with shops in Belgium, France and the United Kingdom as well.
