Discount Retail Chain Aldi Germany will build a new automated distribution centre for frozen goods, fruit and vegetables in the northeast of Mörfelden-Walldorf. Aldi Süd plans to expand its logistics location in the northeast of Mörfelden-Walldorf over the next two years. This was announced by the discounter in a statement. The regional company Mörfelden will be expanded into a regional and automated distribution center for frozen goods as well as fruit and vegetables.
Construction will begin in the first half of the year. Completion and commissioning are expected to take place in the first half of 2025. The logistics location Mörfelden will be "an important part of the Aldi Süd freshness concept," according to the Aldi statement.
According to Aldi, the current logistics center has existed for more than five decades. It is planned that the stores of other regional distribution companies in the area will also be supplied with frozen goods as well as fresh fruit and vegetables from the Mörfelden site in the future.
It is planned to supplement the existing logistics buildings with an extension, whereby individual parts of the building will extend over several floors in order to accommodate the high-bay warehouse with the automation technology. Different cooling areas are used to ensure that fruit and vegetables as well as frozen products can be stored at an ideal temperature.
The "high degree of automation of the warehouse" is primarily intended to affect the storage and picking of goods. The employees at the Mörfelden-Walldorf site would "continue to be needed to supervise and actively control processes". In the future, additional jobs are to be created at the site.
